5 Easy Hacks for Long-Lasting Curls

I'm not sure if you realized, but I curl my hair a lot. Most of the time I use a wand to curl my hair, however occasionally  I use a curling iron. I find that my curls last much longer when I use a wand, but that might just be with my hair. Since I curl my hair so often, I have discovered a few ways to make the curls last longer. In school I was always asked how I kept my curls so perfect, even though I had slept on them. So, I decided to share my secret:

1) When you are washing your hair, keep most of the conditioner on the ends of your hair and put the remainder of conditioner that is on your hands, at the top. Be sure to wash out all of the conditioner so that your hair is not too silky. Your curls will last longer if the conditioner is completely out of your hair.

2) Let your hair air dry. I recommend washing your hair in the morning, letting it air dry all day and curling it in the afternoon or evening. For the days when you have to wash your hair after school or work, still let it air dry and if it is a little damp by the time you curl it, you can blow dry it. If you are going to blow dry it, flip your hair over so that you are not blow drying straight down.

3)  Use a scrunchie to make a loose ponytail on the very top of your head so you don't ruin your curls. I recommend flipping your hair over and putting a loose ponytail in right before you sleep. Once you are lying down, move the hair above your head on your pillow. This trick will prevent your curls from flattening and it will also keep the volume in your hair.

4) Curl your hair in small sections! I find that when I take smaller chunks to curl, the curls stay much longer because they become much fuller. Yes, this takes some time, but it is totally worth it. Perhaps listening to music or watching a YouTube video might make the process less tedious and more relaxing.

5) When you are sitting in your car, at work or at school, keep your curls in front of you. This stops you from leaning on your curls and prevents them from flattening.

I hope these tips help you the next time you curl your hair! I would love to hear what you do to keep your curls intact, leave a comment if you'd like to share your secrets.

  1. Thank you so much for these tips! Tip #3 is genius!! I love to curl my hair as well, and have also found that a wand works better than a curling iron.

Another thing that I've found is that for my particular hair type (fine, not thick), hair spray actually does the opposite of help! It tends to weigh my hair down and make the curls fall out. When I don't use any product in my hair, I find the curls can last quite a long time!

    1. I totally agree. I don't put any hairspray in my hair either!
